This piece is about my depression and anxiety pulling me deeper down. The jagged red brushstrokes are like the chaos happening in my life and the anger I feel in reaction to it. The words in black like what I'm feeling on the inside, the thoughts and ideas going through my head. When I have anxiety attacks, I get racing, repetitive thoughts but they are scrambled, and I'm not really comprehending what I'm thinking. The way the words are hard to read and scratchy are like the thoughts going through my head during an anxiety attack. The outline of the girl is me, and you can see that she is kind of in a ball, facing away. And she is suffocated by the chaos with no where to go. I was inspired to do this piece after having a bad morning.
I named this piece deeper because depression and anxiety tries to pull you down into the deep end and suffocate you. I hope my piece helps you know that you aren't alone in your struggle, if you're going through something similar. If you have never struggled with depression and anxiety, I hope my piece helps to bring you understanding of what it is like- we are not "faking" it- and for lots of us, every single day is a struggle to stay above the water.
