The Gossip series
I really wanted to incorporate pieces of people who cares for me in this piece, so I used the mouth of people I care about and have touched my life in a meaningful way. This piece represents being judged be a lot of people, how I can feel like I'm trapped by what everyone says and how come people say uplifting and helpful things and other people say things that are far from uplifting and helpful. The brick wall in some of them represents being pushed up to a brick wall, and the ones where there is not a brick wall represent when people tell me to go out and find myself and stop being fake. This arraignment of mouths has said both good and bad things to me, and I chose each mouth with scrutiny. The eye represents me, it is trapped in the middle of everyone and everything telling it contradictory things. I wanted this piece to relate to people and be very easily looked at differently by different people. I made it so that depending on what you've gone through and what you're dealing with right then, you see it differently. For this series I used a linoleum block for relief print on the mouths and mono-print off Plexiglas for the eye. The brick wall was from a stencil.
